ALL IS LOST [Outtake from The Great Mistake]

Music by Transcendence. Lyrics: Ed Hale. Guitar: Ed Hale and Fernando Perdomo. Drums: Bill Sommer. Bass guitar: Roger Houdaille. Recorded at Dungeon Recording Studios. Miami, FL 2006. Engineered by Rudi Meeuwen and Joe Syring. Produced by Transcendence. Mixed by Fernando Perdomo.

All is lost has a similar story to Vampire Song. This was another one of those warm up jams. No one actually wrote the song and “brought it in.” We were just jamming. I was lying down on my back on the studio floor with the microphone working out a melody while the other guys were jamming on the progression. Those four days were less a recording session than an extended party that lasted for four days. The girls were there snapping photos of the sessions while various people walked in and out of the studio. We were all just happy to be together again playing. One of the girls mumbled “You should call this song “All is lost.” So we did. As excited as we were by the riff when Fernando first came up with it, we were less than pleased with the way the song came out by the time it was finished. We just didn’t think it sounded like Transcendence. I blame that entirely on the melody I ended up with and the way I sang the song. But lyrically the song was important. The message of the lyrics was important to me personally to let out of my system. It was a release really more than anything else. Thanks to Yvette Labov for the title idea. I needed it.

Lyrics

I know you

Uncertain when you cry

But I

Helped you

That you can’t deny

But you were there

Never for too long and now we’re lost

You

Were there

In certain times for me

That I don’t deny

But you still let me bleed

And you

Were posing as someone

Who cared when I was up

But when I was down and needed someone

All you did was lie and now we’re lost

Now all is lost

Is lost is lost is lost

I was hurt

And you were broken

You climbed over me

In hope that

As I was reaching

You’d get up

And I would die

But I survived

Now I demand that you come take a stand

For all those times when all you did

Was serve yourself and watched me suffer

Lost

All is lost now all is lost

Now all is lost but all’s not lost
