Jacquie was a song that I had written years before TRANSCENDENCE while still in the band Broken Spectacles. I wrote it for a girlfriend of mine of the same name who had been begging me for a song. And she was very particular about the song, which made it a bit daunting. Jacquie never minced words and she never held back. I could write her ten songs and if she didn’t like them she would just say “Nah, I don’t really like it.” She had very exact instructions about what the song should sound like and how it should move. Jacquie was all about the groove. The lyrics of this song were a one off filled with inside jokes and anecdotes. Broken Spectacles broke up before we could record it so it just sat around for years. Once the recording sessions for TRANSCENDENCE started in earnest I played it for our then bass player Stro at some point and he said “We have to record this song chief. This shit’s off the chain.” So we did. Probably one of the tightest and catchiest songs that group ever pulled off. Joe Trainer, who left the band before we finished recording the album to relocate up north, cut that piano solo in about two or three takes. He wanted to write and nail the whole damn solo in one take and refused to do any punch-ins or overdubs. Luckily Joe is one hell of a piano player. He pulled it off. But again we just had too many songs for the album, and Jacquie, though it came off beautifully, didn’t seem to fit thematically with the rest of the album compared to the other songs we contemplated cutting from the record. So Jacquie stayed shelved for the last eight years. Completed and catchy as all hell but lost and without a home until now.

Lyrics

Jacquie’s on the pill

So I’m back in the pocket

I’ll be getting my thrill from now on

Treat her every night

Gonna eat her like candy

Going to make her my baby

From now on

I sing o-o-o you don’t find

This stuff on second avenue

The way she kiss is just right

Lord I love the things she do

Gonna do her like that

Gonna do her like that

I say who’s that girl she says that’s Jacquie

I singing aint she sweet

She tastes just like sugar

No aperitif

Has ever done me like that

See her on the street the men’s hearts they quiver

They aint never seen

A girl as fine as that

They sing o-o-o

She’s morning Angel

I love her in the afternoon

I never like to leave her

Cause I love the things she do

I’m gonna do her like that

I’m gonna do her like that

I say what’s that

She says that’s Jacquie

You can find most anything if you take your time and look real hard no

But you wont find this diamond ring in any old mine take the rest of your life

Take the rest of your life, cause she is mine….

Oh who’s that girl

That’s Jacquie, Jacquie oh, Jacquie oh no….
